IdeaHack: Level Ground MMA

In a team of five, won a 24-hour hackathon hosted by the Startup Institute. Nine teams created proposals for scaling the market strategy of Level Ground MMA, a non-profit focused on leveraging the teachings of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to bring discipline and community mentorship to Boston urban youth.

Individual contribution included designing the pitch deck and mocking up possible redesigns of the Level Ground MMA website and example social media posts.

In addition, the menu architecture of the Level Ground MMA website was re-organized and re-prioritized to bring more focus to the main call-to-actions of the organization -- "Donate", "Learn more about our story", and "Learn more about the corporate classes".

Often times, parents and caregivers are unable to tell whether a baby is in a severe amount of pain or just being fussy. With this mobile app questionnaire, parents and caregivers can swipe through six questions based on the Neonatal Infant Pain Scale to determine the level of pain their baby is under before taking further action.

Hi there, I'm Sarah!

I'm a UX/UI designer with a strong foundation in visual design, ideation and wireframing.

I'm currently looking for new opportunities innovating within the tech space. I'm incredibly excited by companies that are obsessed with building products that their users love interacting with.

With my background in graphic design, I would love to contribute to a team dedicated to creating these great tech products and help translate complex ideas into simple, logical designs.

My UX/UI Design Chops

  • Proficiency: Adobe Illustrator, Axure RP, CSS, HTML, Sass, Usability Testing

Why UX/UI?

You know how remote controls have 40 buttons and yet you only seem to use about 10? How restaurant websites tell you about 5 other specials and wines before showing you their menu? Or how the NHL website is well... the NHL website?

I see that and I want to fix that. I want people to enjoy their experiences when they use products, not scramble to find the "Last" button on the remote when a scary commercial comes on TV. Good design is intuitive and does the thinking for you.

Inspiring Quotes from the Greats

To design is much more than simply to assemble, to order, or even to edit; it is to add value and meaning, to illuminate, to simplify, to clarify, to modify, to dignify, to dramatize, to persuade, and perhaps even to amuse. Paul Rand
